This week is our final meeting for the project term, and I have successfully completed my tasks as part of the Cabin Design team. We will now spend the next week preparing for Maker Faire.
Our group learned that we would no longer be able to use Prof Viswanathan's printer due to the required print time. However we will still have 3 ready models in addition to however many more we would be able to spend using our leftover funds on 3D hubs.
This week I was able to get a print of our podcar finished by the Central Shop. At this point in time we have two finished models available for use, with a third model in the works from Professor Youseffi. I plan to procure at least 2 more (for a total of 5) podcars in our stable of models.
After not getting conclusive answers from Professors Youssefi and Bowley regarding the issues about our CAD model, I decided to outsource some assistance from 3D hubs. 3D Hubs was able to print out the cabin and resolve the SolidWorks file for less than half the projected cost of other companies and services.
These following weeks will be focused on figuring bugs regarding 3D printer usage. The prints came out messed up, as some planar features that weren't existent were suddenly inserted and hollowed out parts were not hollowed out.
This week consisted of making minor revisions to the overall design in regards to parts fitment and tolerancing. Ribbed wall(s) were introduced to attempt to save on print time
This week I plan to consult some time with prof Youssefi regarding a 3D render of our finalized podcar. Upon learning the costs of printing out a cabin, we decided to fore go a second prototype and do as much of the assessment on computer (which we should have done in the first place)
